Learn how to create striking black and white studies on toned paper, starting with fruit still life to build confidence before embarking on self portraits, with a focus contrast, and careful observation.
What you’ll learn
We’ll begin in the morning by working from real-life reference using fruit and home decor objects, before moving on to a simple still life composition. You’ll learn how to identify the darkest darks and lightest lights, and help you simplify what you see and understand form more clearly.
In the afternoon, we’ll apply the same technique to self portraits on toned paper. We’ll look at simplification, proportions in ways that doesn’t feel intimidating. So your portraits feel fresh, strong, and full of character.
All paper, pens, and pencils will be provided.
